7Pines occupies an exposed headland with open Mediterranean views on every side — the resort’s greatest asset and its hardest shading problem. Over four years, one bespoke sail became eighteen, spanning four restaurant terraces. The oldest has run nearly every day for nine years.

A Resort Built for the View — and the Sun That Comes With It.
7Pines sits on an exposed headland with the Mediterranean on almost every side. The position sells the resort — and punishes anything built to shade it. No mature trees could be planted into the terraces; parasols were tried and quickly failed — restless in the wind, maintenance-hungry, never enough continuous cover for a full restaurant service. The brief was shade that could run like architecture, not equipment.

01 — The Place
7Pines occupies a headland on Ibiza’s west coast, the ground falling away to the sea on almost every side, Es Vedra on the horizon. The views are why guests come; the exposure — sun off the water, salt in the air, wind with nothing to break it — is why ordinary shade never lasted here.

02 — The Architecture
Each terrace took a bespoke sail — spans reaching 80 m² — planned, load-calculated and tuned to its own orientation and wind. Marine-grade V4A stainless steel and tensioned membranes carry the exposure; the sails read as part of the resort’s architecture rather than equipment bolted onto it. Engineered on patented SunSquare hardware.

03 — Operations
Across four restaurant terraces, the sails let service run at full covers through the hottest hours. Guests stay longer; the terraces earn through the season. The resort reports substantial more annual revenue on those four terraces since the sails went up — and has extended the installation year after year. The first sails are nine years old and still in daily use.

How long do the sails actually last in a resort setting?
The first sails we installed at 7Pines are nine years old and still in daily service — through salt, sun and headland wind. Marine-grade V4A stainless steel, tensioned membranes and adjustable arms are built for 25 years. For an operator, that is low maintenance and high investment security, not a fabric you replace every few seasons.
Can shade be added terrace by terrace as we grow?
Yes — that is exactly how 7Pines did it. One bespoke sail became eighteen over four years, each planned to a specific terrace, orientation and wind. New sails were added wherever the resort opened or extended an outdoor area, always matched to what was already there. The system is a framework you extend, not a one-off purchase.
Does covered outdoor space really pay for itself?
The resort reports up to 30% more annual revenue on its four shaded restaurant terraces since the sails went up. Continuous shade lets service run at full covers through the hottest hours; guests stay longer and the terraces earn through the season. That the resort kept extending the installation for four years is the clearest proof.
