The rooftop restaurant at One Ibiza Suites sits on the first sea line — one of the island’s most exclusive open-air rooms, and one of its most demanding. Relentless sun, salt-heavy air and sudden wind had defeated every awning and parasol before us: fault-prone, maintenance-hungry, and never a single continuous plane of shade. The brief was a terrace that could run like architecture, not equipment.

01 — The Location
One Ibiza Suites overlooks the bay from the first sea line — a rooftop bar and lounge with open water and coastline filling the view. It is one of Ibiza’s most exclusive outdoor rooms, and the light, salt and wind that come with the position are exactly what make lasting shade so hard to build here.
From the terrace, the eye runs straight out to the Mediterranean and the old town beyond. Nothing interrupts it — the shade had to hold that view open, not block it.
02 — The Engineering
Two bespoke INCOMPAR AXIS sails span the terrace — 45 m² and 60 m² — carried on cantilever masts set at the edge. Nothing stands beneath them: no posts, no masts in the floor. Marine-grade V4A stainless steel and a tensioned Soltis 92 membrane take the salt and the gusts, while the whole span floats — opening the roofline to the sea instead of cluttering it. Engineered on patented SunSquare hardware.
03 — Operations
The part guests never notice is the part operators feel every day. One remote opens or closes both sails; when the wind sensor reads its threshold, they retract on their own — no staff, no damage. Maintenance drops, the hardware lasts, and the terrace runs at full covers through the brightest hours. The operator reports terrace revenue up around 30% — and further installations across the group are already planned.

Both sails are motorised and tied to a wind sensor. Below the threshold they hold the full 105 m² of shade; when a gust crosses it, they auto-retract in seconds — no staff decision, no damage. That is what lets the terrace run at full covers all season.
Do the masts take up floor we could seat?
No. Both AXIS sails are carried on cantilever masts at the terrace edge, so the 105 m² beneath them is completely column-free. You lay out tables, walkways and lounge exactly as service needs — not around posts.
